About us...

The Universities Women’s Cricket Club (UWCC) was created in 2004 by the merger of the Sydney University Women’s Cricket Club and the University ofNSW Women’s Cricket Club. We are associated with the UNSW men’s cricket club and both Universities sports unions.

While we are a Universities club, our members come from all different walks of life, we have current students and graduates of both universities, plus members of the greater community. We believe that playing cricket is all about playing with your mates, giving it your best but above all enjoying the game.

In the 2006-7 season UWCC will field teams in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in the Sydney Women's Grade Competition.  We also run a mid-week social competition in Moore Park called Twilight 12s which is aimed at females who want to play cricket but don't have the time or the inclination to play in the more serious grade competition.  Twilight twelves is an eight-a-side, twelve-overs-per-innings game which takes around an hour.  For more information visit the Twilight 12s website.

UWCC is a dynamic club both on and off the field, we place the enjoyment of cricket and having fun high in our club ethos, from the social competition through to our high performance players in the grade competition. We are a social club, celebrating our strong performances on and off the field with camaraderie at regular social functions after training and games. The highlights of the social calendar are the annual Trivia night and the annual presentation night.

We have a number of national and international repersentatives in our club. Our 1st Grade team boasts the Talents of the Australian Southern Stars and NSWBreakers representatives Lisa Sthalekar, Alex Blackwell, and Kate Blackwell, and NSW Breaker Sarah Hungerford. These players are also heavily involved in coaching within the club and developing the talents of our up and coming players as well as those new to the game of cricket.

Training and match venues are shared between the quality facilities of the University New South Wales and Sydney University.  Our preseason training starts in August each year, with 1st and 2nd Grades commensing matches at the end of September.
